Ko e mape
Ormoc lies on the western coast of Leyte, where the island's interior hills open onto a sheltered bay facing the Camotes Sea. The compact centre sits right at the waterfront, with a port and a short grid of streets. From there, roads fan out across a wide lowland planted largely with sugarcane before climbing into the uplands.
Rivers shape the city in a way that is easy to read on a map. In November 1991, floodwaters from the Anilao and Malbasag rivers swept through Ormoc and killed thousands of people, one of the deadliest disasters in Philippine history. Today the rebuilt channels and their embankments are clear lines running through the urban area toward the bay.
An Ormoc map poster traces the curve of the bay, the port and the way the city spreads across its plain. Ormoc Bay also gave its name to a naval battle in late 1944, during the Leyte campaign of the Second World War. In black and white, the shoreline, the river lines and the roads thinning inland make a clear, balanced composition.
The city faces a deep, sheltered bay on Leyte's west coast. The smooth curve of the shore anchors the whole composition and sets the dense centre against open water.
The Anilao and Malbasag rivers run through the urban area to the sea. Their reinforced courses show up as firm lines between the neighbourhoods.
Beyond the centre, roads cross a broad farming plain before reaching the island's hills. The street network thins gradually from a dense core to open country.

Ko e ha Ormoc
For people from Ormoc working abroad or living elsewhere in the Philippines, a map is a direct way to keep the bay and the old streets close. It also shows a city that rebuilt itself after disaster, which gives the plan a quiet weight.
