Oytograk lies on the southern rim of the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang. Here the Kunlun Mountains fall away into the edge of the Taklamakan Desert. From above, the town appears as a compact cluster of streets inside a patchwork of irrigated land. Beyond the fields, the map turns suddenly empty, showing how closely life here follows the water that runs down from the mountains.
On a black-and-white print, the town is a web of fine lines. Straight roads run between walled plots and orchards, and irrigation channels pick out the field boundaries. Past the last cultivated strip there is almost nothing to draw, and that open ground becomes a large part of the design. The contrast between dense, careful detail and plain blank paper is what makes the place worth framing.
A Oytograk map poster captures a landscape that satellite images and travel books rarely show in detail. It records an oasis settlement on the old routes along the southern edge of the Tarim Basin, reduced to the lines of its roads and water. For anyone with roots in southern Xinjiang, it is a quiet, exact picture of home.
Irrigated plots and tree-lined channels create a tight mesh of short lines around the town, one of the densest textures on the whole map.
Past the cultivated land, the map opens into the Taklamakan's edge. It is almost blank, and that empty space gives the print its strong contrast.
Water comes down from the Kunlun range to the south. The way roads and fields follow these watercourses shows how the settlement is shaped.

Ko e ha Oytograk
People hang this map because it shows how a place survives. It is a small town held in place by water at the edge of one of the world's great deserts. For families from the region, it is a personal record. For everyone else, it is an unusual and graphic piece of geography.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line to the poster, and a date that matters to you. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits the desert setting especially well.
