Pālang lies in Shariatpur district in central Bangladesh, on the flat, fertile land south of the Padma and west of the Meghna. It is closely associated with the district headquarters, and the name Palong has long been familiar in the area. On a map the town appears as a loose cluster of streets set among water, with canals, ponds and channels between the blocks.
The delta shapes everything here. Roads run on raised embankments to stay above seasonal floods, settlements cluster on higher ground, and fields fill the lower land between them. The resulting pattern is less a grid than a network of lines and small islands, with water visible in almost every part of the sheet.
A Pālang map poster turns that intricate relationship between land and water into a clear, graphic image. The streets form the densest area at the centre, while the surrounding canals and ponds break the landscape into small irregular pieces, a fitting portrait of a place defined by the great rivers of Bengal.
Numerous small ponds and channels are scattered across the town and its outskirts, adding dozens of small shapes that give the map its distinctive texture.
Main routes run along raised ground, drawing long, slightly curving lines across the low land and linking the town to surrounding villages.
Homes gather on higher patches between the fields, forming small dense clusters separated by open ground and water.
