Pampanito is the seat of the municipality of the same name in Trujillo state, in the Venezuelan Andes. It lies in a valley close to the city of Trujillo, and the relationship between the two is visible from above. The town stretches along the main road, with its streets filling the flatter ground of the valley floor and the mountainsides rising on either side.
This is a place defined by its setting. The valley narrows and widens, and the built area follows it, forming a long, uneven band rather than a round centre.
