Ko e mape
Pearl lies in Rankin County, just east of Jackson, across the river it is named after. The Pearl River and its wooded, often flooded bottomland form the western edge of the city. On the map they appear as a meandering channel with oxbows and swampy ground, and the suburban street network stops where the floodplain begins.
Interstate 20 runs east to west through the city, lined with interchanges and large commercial parcels. North of it and south of it, residential areas spread out in curving streets and cul-de-sacs typical of post-war growth in the South. Jackson's main airport lies close to the north, so runways and open land fill part of that edge of the map.
A Pearl map poster shows a city defined by its position: on the far side of the river from the state capital, connected by highway and bridge. In black and white, the curving river and the straight interstate frame the neighbourhoods, which fill the space between with fine, looping lines.
The river winds along the western edge with oxbows and wooded bottomland, leaving a wide, lightly built margin between Pearl and Jackson.
The interstate cuts straight across the city, with its interchanges and commercial strips forming a strong horizontal band on the map.
Residential areas are laid out in curving streets and cul-de-sacs, giving the neighbourhoods a soft, repeating texture between the main roads.
