Perico is a municipality in the eastern part of Matanzas Province, in the level agricultural country of central-western Cuba. From above the town shows the regular pattern common to many Cuban provincial towns: straight streets crossing at right angles and forming even blocks. The surrounding land has long been worked for sugar cane and other crops, and railways were laid across the region to carry the harvest.
