Ko e mape
Port Colborne sits on the north shore of Lake Erie in Ontario's Niagara Region, at the southern end of the Welland Canal. The canal runs straight through the city and divides it into east and west sides, which are linked by lift bridges. From above, its long, straight channel is the most striking feature on the map, meeting the lake at a sheltered harbour.
The canal's southern lock, Lock 8, is among the longest locks in the world and adjusts for the changing level of the lake. On a Port Colborne map poster, the canal, the harbour breakwaters and the smooth Lake Erie shoreline combine with the modest city grid in a composition defined by water and engineering.
The city grew with the canal and with industry, including a long-established nickel refinery, while its beaches and lakeside parks draw summer visitors. Streets form a straightforward grid on either side of the waterway, and residential areas extend along the shore in both directions, which gives the city a broad, horizontal shape.
The canal cuts a dead-straight line north through the city, dividing Port Colborne and giving the poster a bold vertical axis rarely seen on a town map.
Near the canal's southern end, Lock 8 is one of the longest locks in the world, and its narrow rectangle is visible in detail on the map.
The shore runs east and west from the canal mouth, with breakwaters sheltering the harbour and a clean line of coast framing the bottom of the composition.

Ko e ha Port Colborne
For people who grew up watching ships pass through the lift bridges, or who spend summers by the lake, Port Colborne's map carries real memories. The straight canal line makes it one of the most graphic small-city maps in Ontario.
Add a title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a street name or the year you arrived, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The Blueprint style suits the canal's engineering particularly well. The HD files cost $9.
