Presidente Epitácio sits at the far western edge of São Paulo state, where the land runs out at the Paraná River. Across the water lies Mato Grosso do Sul, so the town's western boundary is a state border as well as a shoreline. On a map the settled area is a tidy block of streets pressed against a very wide expanse of river.
The river here was widened by the reservoir of the Porto Primavera dam downstream, and the town's waterfront faces a body of water that reads almost like a lake. A long road bridge leaves the edge of town and runs across the channel toward the neighbouring state, a straight line drawn over open water that anchors the whole composition.
A Presidente Epitácio map poster is mostly about that contrast between a regular grid and an enormous, pale river surface. The town carries the name of Epitácio Pessoa, a former president of Brazil, and grew as a river port at the end of a railway line. In black and white, the shoreline and the bridge do most of the work.
The town's western streets stop at the river, which spreads far wider than a typical channel here. The shoreline forms a long clean edge along one side of the print.
A long bridge crosses the Paraná toward Mato Grosso do Sul, a single straight line over water that links two states and gives the map a strong horizontal accent.
Inland from the river, the town is laid out in even blocks, a quiet orthogonal pattern that contrasts neatly with the irregular outline of the reservoir shore.
