Ko e mape
Quellón is the southernmost town of any size on the island of Chiloé in Chile's Los Lagos Region, and the sea defines its map. The town curves along a sheltered bay, with streets climbing gently inland from a waterfront of piers and moorings. Beyond the town the coastline breaks into inlets, headlands and small islands scattered across the channels.
Quellón is known as the end point of Chile's Route 5, part of the Pan-American Highway, which crosses the length of the country before finishing here. A marker in the town records the spot. The port also matters to the salmon and shellfish industries and to the ferries that link Chiloé with remote communities in northern Patagonia.
A Quellón map poster captures a true end of the road, where land gives way to water and islands. The curve of the bay, the grid of streets behind it and the broken coastline around it make a balanced, maritime composition. It looks especially fine in Blueprint or Noir.
Quellón's centre follows the curve of a sheltered bay. Piers and a coastal road form a clear edge between the town and the water.
Chile's main north–south highway ends in Quellón, marking the southern terminus of the Pan-American route through the country.
Around the town, small islands and inlets fill the channels between Chiloé and the mainland. They give the map an intricate, fragmented coastline.
