Rawad, also written Raoued, lies in the Ariana Governorate on the northern edge of greater Tunis. From above, it occupies a strip of land between the Mediterranean coast and the wide, flat Sebkha Ariana, a salt lagoon. The residential streets spread across the land between them, and the long sandy beach runs along the eastern edge.
The area has grown quickly as part of the Tunis metropolitan region, and it combines residential neighbourhoods, new developments and farmland.
