River confluence
The Capibaribe and Beberibe meet near the port and cut the historic centre into islands. The oldest streets therefore appear as small, separate grids surrounded by water.

Recife takes its name from the reef that runs parallel to the coast and shelters the harbour, and on a map water shapes almost everything. The Capibaribe and Beberibe rivers meet near the sea and split the old centre into islands and peninsulas. A series of bridges joins the districts of Recife Antigo, Santo Antônio and São José to each other and to the mainland.
Beyond the centre, the Capibaribe winds west through the city in wide loops, with neighbourhoods following its bends. To the south a long, straight coastline runs past Boa Viagem, its beach avenue lined with tall buildings. To the north the old town of Olinda sits on its hill, almost joined to Recife by continuous streets.
Its many bridges and waterways have earned the city the nickname Venice of Brazil. A Recife map poster turns that network into a composition of curving river lines and small street grids on islands, bounded by the straight edge of the Atlantic. At larger print sizes, mangrove channels and estuaries add further detail.
The Capibaribe and Beberibe meet near the port and cut the historic centre into islands. The oldest streets therefore appear as small, separate grids surrounded by water.
A natural stone reef runs just offshore, parallel to the coast, and gave the city its name. It shelters the port and can appear as a thin line along the sea.
South of the centre the coastline runs almost straight for kilometres. A beachfront avenue and the dense blocks behind it form a clean edge against the ocean.

Ko e ha Recife
Recife is a city of neighbourhoods divided by water, and people tend to feel strongly about their own side of the river. Name the poster after a bairro, add a date or a dedication, and let the coordinates mark home.
Blueprint and Noir make the rivers and bridges stand out sharply, and Classic black and white stays understated. The $9 download covers six print sizes in PNG and PDF, and framed prints are available through local partners.
