Ko e mape
Redford Township borders the west side of Detroit, and on a map it is a near-perfect example of the Michigan grid. Major roads run at one-mile intervals and divide the township into square sections. Inside each square, a fine mesh of residential streets fills almost every block. The pattern is regular, but small changes in orientation show where different subdivisions were laid out.
Two roads break the order. Telegraph Road runs north to south as one of the region's great arterials, and Grand River Avenue cuts diagonally across the northern part of the township on its old route out of Detroit. The Rouge River meanders through too, leaving strips of parkland and curving lines that soften the geometry.
A Redford map poster suits anyone who appreciates the quiet logic of postwar suburbia. In black and white, the repeated streets become almost textile-like, and the few diagonals and river curves feel all the more striking against them. It is a portrait of an everyday place that many people call home.

Grand River Avenue crosses the grid at an angle, following one of the historic routes out of Detroit and adding tension to the design.
The river's winding course interrupts the grid with irregular green corridors. It is one of the few natural lines in this otherwise planned landscape.

Ko e ha Redford
People who grew up in Redford often remember it by its streets: the block where they learned to ride a bike, the route to school, the mile road to the nearest store. This print puts all of those in one frame.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name and the year you bought the house, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Digital files cost $9, or order a printed poster, framed if you prefer.
