Renala Khurd lies in Okara District in Pakistan's Punjab, on the main road between Lahore and Multan. From above, the town stretches along the highway and the railway, with a compact grid of streets around the centre. Irrigation canals cross the flat land nearby, and orchards and fields spread out around the town in a regular patchwork.
The town is known for the Renala hydroelectric power station, built in 1925 under the engineer Sir Ganga Ram to power irrigation pumps and still running on canal water. It is considered one of the oldest hydro stations in the region. Renala Khurd is also home to Mitchell's Fruit Farms, a long-established maker of jams and preserves founded in the 1930s.
A Renala Khurd map poster shows a town built around water and transport. The highway and railway run in parallel lines, canals cut across the fields, and the town's grid sits between them. The surrounding orchards and farmland give the map an open, orderly background, typical of the canal colonies of Punjab.
The main road and the railway run side by side through the town, forming its strongest lines and linking it to Lahore to the northeast and Multan to the southwest.
Irrigation canals cross the flat plain in long straight lines. They supply the fields and also power the town's historic hydroelectric station.
Around the town, farmland and fruit orchards are divided into rectangular plots, giving the map a regular, patchwork pattern.
