Russeifa sits in the Zarqa governorate, between Amman and Zarqa, in one of the most heavily built-up corridors in Jordan. On a map the city follows the lie of the land. Neighbourhoods fill the valley and climb the surrounding hills, and major roads link it to its two larger neighbours. The boundaries between the three cities blur into continuous development.
The area was long associated with phosphate mining, and the traces of that industry have shaped parts of the landscape. The city has grown quickly, largely through dense residential neighbourhoods. Many of its streets were built to fit hilly, uneven ground, so they rarely form a neat grid.
