Sabang is the main town of Weh Island, a small island off the northern tip of Sumatra in Aceh Province. It is often described as the northernmost point of Indonesia, and a Kilometre Zero monument on the island marks the start of the country's territory. The town lies around a sheltered bay with deep water close to shore, which historically made it an important port.
On a map, the coastline dominates. The town's streets follow the curve of the bay, climb onto hillsides and stop where forest takes over. Across the island, winding roads link beaches, coves and small villages. The surrounding waters are known for coral reefs and diving, drawing visitors to the island's rocky shores.
A Sabang map poster frames a town shaped by the sea. The harbour appears as a large open space held by headlands, streets trace the shoreline in soft curves, and the island's irregular coast gives the map an unusually strong outline. It is a picture of a place at the edge of the archipelago, looking out over the entrance to the Strait of Malacca.

A monument on Weh Island marks Indonesia's symbolic starting point in the far north-west, a landmark for visitors to the island.
Weh Island's rocky, indented coast of coves and headlands gives the map a strong outline against the surrounding open sea.
