Ko e mape
Sai Kung Town sits on the eastern side of Hong Kong's New Territories, at the head of Inner Port Shelter. On a map, the town is a small, dense area of streets pressed against the water, with a promenade and public pier on its seaward edge. Directly behind it, contour-heavy hills rise into country park.
The coastline is the real subject here. The peninsula breaks into inlets, bays and headlands, and islands of all sizes are scattered across the water. Further east are the volcanic landscapes of the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, and the High Island Reservoir, whose dams close off a former sea channel.
A Sai Kung map poster works because it has a lot of edge. Almost every line on it is a shoreline. In black and white, the town is a compact dark patch, and the islands and inlets around it spread across the frame. For many people in Hong Kong, it is the place they go when they want to leave the city behind.
The town's seaward side is a continuous edge of promenade and pier. It faces a harbour where small boats moor, and the seafood restaurants along it are well known.
Many islands of different sizes sit in Port Shelter and the waters beyond. Together they break the sea into channels and give the map a fragmented, detailed texture.
Steep, largely roadless hills rise straight behind the town. Beyond them, protected country park and geopark land covers much of the peninsula.

Ko e ha Sai Kung
Hikers, sailors, residents and anyone who has spent weekends in Sai Kung will recognise the coastline immediately. The intricate outline of bays and islands makes it one of the most graphic places in Hong Kong to put on paper.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, such as the date of a hike or of moving to the area. Choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the water especially well.
