Ko e mape
Sainte-Catherine is on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, directly across from Montreal and the Lachine Rapids. From above, it is defined by water. The broad river lies to the north, and just inside it runs the Saint Lawrence Seaway canal, separated by a long embankment. Behind the waterfront, suburban streets fill the land in curving crescents and cul-de-sacs.
The Seaway is the strongest line on the map. It is a precise, engineered channel that lets ships bypass the rapids on their way to the Great Lakes. Sainte-Catherine's lock is part of that system. Along the embankment, a strip of parkland is used for walking and cycling, with views across the river to the Montreal skyline.
Inland, the street pattern is typical of Quebec suburbs from the late twentieth century, with looping residential roads set around schools and parks. The Sainte-Catherine map poster brings these layers together: open river, straight canal and a soft suburban grid, all compressed into a narrow band of land.
The Saint Lawrence Seaway runs along the town in a straight, engineered line. It is separated from the river by a narrow embankment and a lock.
Beyond the canal, the wide St. Lawrence and the Lachine Rapids fill the northern part of the map. They form a large open area facing Montreal.
Residential streets curve into loops and cul-de-sacs. They create a gentle, repeating pattern that contrasts with the straight lines along the water.
