Ko e mape
Shumikha is a town in Kurgan Oblast, in the flat country between the southern Urals and western Siberia. It grew up as a station on the railway running east from Chelyabinsk, and the line still dominates its map: a long, straight bundle of tracks crossing the town, with the street grid organised around it.
The streets themselves are largely rectangular, a pattern typical of Russian towns planned or expanded in the railway era. Residential blocks of detached houses with gardens fill most of the grid, while the station and older industrial sites cluster near the tracks. Beyond the town's edge the land opens into steppe and farmland, scattered with small lakes.
A Shumikha map poster presents a very clear composition: a strong railway spine, a regular grid on either side, and open land all around. It is an honest portrait of a small Siberian-edge town, for anyone whose family history runs through its streets and its station.
The railway crosses the town in a straight line, the single most important structure on the map, with the streets arranged in relation to the tracks.
Residential streets form a steady, regular grid of blocks, producing an ordered pattern that looks clean and balanced when printed in black and white.
Small lakes and open farmland surround the town, adding a scatter of soft water shapes around the edges of the otherwise geometric street plan.
