Tahiti is the largest island of French Polynesia, and its shape is unmistakable: a large, almost circular Tahiti Nui joined to a smaller Tahiti Iti by the narrow isthmus of Taravao. Both halves are the eroded remains of volcanoes, with steep ridges and deep valleys radiating from their centres. Mount Orohena, the highest point, rises in the middle of Tahiti Nui.
Almost all roads and settlements follow the coast. A road circles Tahiti Nui, while on Tahiti Iti the roads stop short of the wild eastern shore. Papeete, the capital, sits in the northwest, with its harbour and Faa'a airport, whose runway was built partly on the reef. On a Tahiti map poster the interior stays open and the edges carry the detail.
A fringing reef and lagoon enclose much of the shoreline, broken by passes where the ocean reaches the coast. At Teahupo'o, on Tahiti Iti, a reef break produces one of the heaviest waves in surfing and hosted the Olympic surfing events in 2024. Inland, the Papenoo valley, the largest on the island, cuts north from the centre to the sea.
The thin neck joining Tahiti Nui to Tahiti Iti gives the island its figure-of-eight outline. A small town and road junction sit on it, marking where the two halves meet.
The capital's streets, port and seaside boulevard fill the northwest coast, forming the largest urban area on the island and the densest patch of lines on the poster.
From each volcanic centre, valleys spread outward like spokes and rivers follow them to the coast. On the poster they show as fine lines crossing an otherwise empty interior.

Ko e ha Tahiti
Tahiti's double-circle outline makes a strong, simple image that reads well from across a room. It suits honeymooners, surfers who made the trip to Teahupo'o, and people from French Polynesia who want the main island on the wall.
Set the title and add a subtitle, perhaps a date or a place name in Tahitian, and edit the coordinates line. Among the five styles, Blueprint and Noir show off the lagoon edge, Paper and Sand warm it, and Classic keeps it pure. Download $9 HD files or order a matte print.
