Tecpán Guatemala sits high in the central highlands of Chimaltenango, more than two thousand metres above sea level. From above, the town is a tidy grid of blocks set around a central plaza and church, the usual pattern of Guatemalan highland towns. The Pan-American Highway runs along its edge, and farmland, forest patches and ravines press in from every side, so the built-up area ends abruptly against a patchwork of fields.
A short way outside town lies Iximché, the former capital of the Kaqchikel Maya. On a map it appears as a narrow plateau protected by deep ravines, a defensive choice that is easy to read from the terrain. In 1524 the Spanish established their first capital of Guatemala at Iximché, which gives this small highland town an unusual place in the country's colonial story.
A Tecpán Guatemala map poster turns this pairing into a quiet composition: the regular urban grid on one side, the irregular ravines and scattered rural roads on the other. In black and white, the difference between planned blocks and the landscape that shaped the older settlement becomes the main subject, and no labels or colour are needed to see it.
The centre follows a rectangular block pattern around the main square and church, a layout that reads clearly on paper and gives the poster a steady geometric core.
The Kaqchikel ruins occupy a ridge bounded by steep ravines. On the map the site's natural defences show up as a sharp tongue of land between gullies.
Highway CA-1 skirts the town, a strong continuous line that links Tecpán to Guatemala City in one direction and the western highlands in the other.

People hang this map because of a trip to the highlands, a family link to Chimaltenango, or an interest in Maya history. It is a small town with a long story, and the print keeps that story modest in scale while making the street pattern the centrepiece.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a family name or the date of a visit, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital download includes six print sizes, or you can order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
