Tepalcatepec lies in the Tierra Caliente of Michoacán, a low, hot region of broad valleys between mountain ranges. The town is close to the border with Jalisco. On the map, its centre is a grid of blocks laid out from a central plaza, in the usual pattern of Mexican towns.
