Trinity College Dublin occupies a large enclosed block in the middle of the city, bounded by College Green, Nassau Street and Pearse Street. From above it reads as a tidy rectangle of cobbled squares and lawns, surrounded on every side by the denser streets of Dublin. The Liffey runs a short distance to the north, past its quays and bridges.
Founded in 1592 under a charter from Elizabeth I, it is Ireland's oldest university. Its front gate on College Green opens into Front Square, with the Campanile at its centre, and the Old Library houses the Book of Kells. Towards the east, College Park and the sports grounds open up the plan into broad green space.
A Trinity College Dublin map poster shows the contrast between this calm, ordered block and the city around it: Grafton Street heading south towards St Stephen's Green, Temple Bar to the west beyond Dame Street, and the river with its bridges to the north. The playing fields become one of the few large open spaces on the central Dublin map.
The main gate leads into a cobbled square with the Campanile at its centre, surrounded by Georgian buildings. It is the formal heart of the college and its best-known view.
The playing fields in the eastern half of the campus form a broad green rectangle, one of the most visible open spaces in the centre of the city from above.
West of the front gate, the junction at College Green meets Dame Street and Grafton Street, linking Trinity to the old city and the shopping streets.

Ko e ha Trinity College Dublin
Trinity graduates remember the campus as a quiet world inside a busy city, and a map captures exactly that: a green, orderly island surrounded by streets, quays and bridges. It is also a fine piece of Dublin for anyone who loves the city.
