Turmero lies in the state of Aragua in north-central Venezuela, just east of Maracay, in the broad valley between the Cordillera de la Costa and the basin of Lake Valencia. The ground is largely flat, and on a map the town spreads outward in blocks of streets that gradually meet the edges of neighbouring communities.
Like many towns in the region, it began as a colonial settlement and grew around a central square and parish church, with a grid of streets extending from them. In recent decades it has expanded quickly as part of the wider Maracay urban area, adding residential developments that carry the older pattern across former farmland.
The valley's fertile soil has long supported agriculture, including sugar cane, and main roads link Turmero with Maracay, Valencia and Caracas.
