Ko e mape
Tuzantla lies in the warm lowlands of eastern Michoacán, close to the border with the State of Mexico. From above, the town is a compact knot of blocks set among folded hills and valley floors. Roads leave it in a few directions, and past the last houses the map gives way to open land broken by streams and scattered settlements.
The name is usually traced to Nahuatl and read as a place of gophers, a common way of naming a place after its landscape in central Mexico. On the map, the town centre follows the familiar colonial pattern: a regular core around a central square, loosening into irregular lanes where the ground begins to rise or fall toward the water.
A Tuzantla map poster works because the scale is modest. You can follow almost every street from one edge of town to the other, and the surrounding terrain comes through as a quiet frame of winding roads and watercourses. In black and white, the contrast between the tight centre and the open countryside is the whole composition.
The oldest part of town is laid out in regular blocks around a main square, a pattern that reads clearly on paper before the streets bend to follow the terrain.
Hills and river valleys surround the town, so the roads that lead out curve and double back instead of running straight, giving the edges of the map a loose, hand-drawn feel.
Beyond the built-up area, thin lines of local roads link Tuzantla to outlying villages, spreading across the poster like veins through the lowland.

Ko e ha Tuzantla
For people with roots in Tierra Caliente, a map of Tuzantla is a way of keeping home on the wall. The streets are few enough to recognise at a glance, and a family house or a childhood route can be found without searching.
Add a title, a subtitle such as a family name or a year, and a coordinates line, then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. You can download it as an HD file for $9 or order it printed.
