Übach-Palenberg lies in the far west of Germany, where the valley of the Wurm river forms part of the border with the Netherlands. The town is a union of several older villages, and on the map it still reads that way: separate clusters of streets connected by main roads, with green space and farmland between them.
For much of the twentieth century this was coal-mining country, and the town grew with its colliery. Mining has ended, but traces remain in the layout: former industrial sites turned into parks and green areas, worker housing laid out in regular rows, and the heap of spoil, now landscaped, rising above the surroundings. The Wurm valley provides a wooded, winding strip along the western edge.
An Übach-Palenberg map poster shows a place shaped by both river and industry. The winding valley, the connected villages and the structured miners' housing create a composition with real variety. It is a thoughtful image for anyone whose family history is tied to the mines of this border region.

Former colliery sites and landscaped spoil heaps mark the town's industrial past. They appear as distinct open shapes within the street pattern.
Several historic villages merged to form the town. Their separate cores are still visible as clusters of streets linked by main roads.
