Uglich Map Poster & Print
Uglich lies on the upper Volga in Yaroslavl Oblast and is one of the historic towns on the Golden Ring route. The river is central to its map. It widens into the Uglich reservoir upstream, passes through a dam and a lock, and flows past the town. The kremlin sits on the riverbank at the heart of the old town.
Around the kremlin, the streets are laid out in a partly regular plan, typical of older Russian provincial towns. Churches and monasteries are scattered through the centre. Towards the edges, the grid loosens into lower-density housing and gardens. The dam, the lock and the hydroelectric station form a clear piece of engineering at the edge of the historic core.
