Unnan Map Poster & Print

Unnan lies inland in Shimane Prefecture, south of Lake Shinji. It was formed in 2004 by merging several towns and villages, and its map reflects that: no single centre, but a series of small settlements along river valleys, separated by wide forested hills.

The Hii river and its tributaries run through the area, and the older districts gather where the valleys widen. The hills of this region are known for tatara, the traditional Japanese method of iron-making, and the rural landscape still carries that heritage.

A Unnan map poster shows a quiet, mostly green landscape crossed by rivers, rail lines and narrow roads. Each small town appears as a cluster of streets in its valley, and the empty hills between them give the print a sense of space and calm.

01

River valleys

Rivers wind through the valleys, and roads, railway and houses follow them, so the built-up areas form long, narrow bands across the map.

02

Scattered towns

The former municipalities that make up Unnan each appear as their own compact settlement, separated by stretches of forest and farmland.

03

Forested hills

Wide areas of hill country fill the spaces between valleys, crossed only by occasional winding roads that climb and descend with the terrain.
