Vakfıkebir lies on the Black Sea coast west of Trabzon, in north-eastern Turkey. Its shape on the map comes from the meeting of sea and hills. The town stretches along the shore in a long, narrow band, and the coastal highway runs close to the water. Behind it, the land rises quickly into steep, green slopes.
The streets behind the waterfront are short and often wind uphill. They follow the terrain, and scattered houses and hamlets spread up the slopes among tea gardens and hazelnut orchards typical of this coast. Small streams run down to the sea through narrow valleys, cutting across the town at intervals.
