Vidyavihar is the campus township of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. On a map it looks very different from the town beside it: straight, planned avenues, rectangular hostel blocks, sports fields and open quads laid out on a clear, symmetrical plan.
The institute grew from educational foundations established by the Birla family in Pilani in the early twentieth century and became BITS in 1964. The campus includes a landmark clock tower and a marble temple dedicated to Saraswati, the goddess of learning, both well known to generations of students.
