Vihari, also written Vehari, is a district town in southern Punjab, Pakistan, on the flat plain between the Sutlej and the lands around Multan. Like many towns in this part of Punjab, it grew with the canal colonies, when irrigation turned dry land into productive farmland, and its layout carries that planned origin.
From above, the town's main roads run straight, and blocks are arranged in a fairly regular order, with newer housing schemes added around the edges. Beyond them the countryside is a patchwork of rectangular fields fed by canals and distributaries. The region is known as one of Pakistan's important cotton-growing areas.
