Vileyka lies in the Minsk region of northwestern Belarus, on the Viliya River, which gives the town its name. On a map the river curves through the frame, and the town's streets spread out from its banks in a mix of older low-rise blocks and later housing estates.
Just upstream lies the Vileyka Reservoir, the largest artificial lake in Belarus, built to supply water to Minsk. Its wide, irregular surface stretches over a large area to the east, with forested shores and small inlets, and it is often called the Minsk Sea's larger neighbour.
