Ko e mape
Walnut Creek sits in a valley east of the Berkeley Hills, in Contra Costa County, where several creeks converge and two major routes meet: Interstate 680, running north to south, and State Route 24, coming in from Oakland. On the map, the interchange is a clear knot near the downtown, with the older street grid spreading out around it.
Beyond the centre, residential neighbourhoods follow curving streets and cul-de-sacs typical of the postwar decades. The Iron Horse Regional Trail, built on a former railway line, runs through the city as a long, straight line, and a BART station links the downtown to San Francisco. To the east, large open-space areas cover the ridges, leaving wide empty zones on the map.
Mount Diablo rises just to the east and is visible from much of the city. A Walnut Creek map poster captures the shape of a suburban city in its setting: a compact downtown, a web of curving streets, and protected hills leading up toward the mountain.
Where I-680 meets State Route 24, the large interchange forms a clear knot beside the downtown and one of the strongest shapes on the map.
The former railway corridor now carries a long, straight trail through the city, cutting a clean line across the curving residential streets.
To the east, protected hills and ridgelines leave wide unbuilt areas, giving the map a quiet edge in the direction of Mount Diablo.
