Ko e mape
Yachi sits in the Murayama part of Yamagata Prefecture, on the level floor of a wide inland basin. From above, the built-up area is a small, fairly dense cluster of streets. Around it lies a patchwork of rectangular paddies and orchard plots, and the lines of irrigation channels and farm roads run straight through them.
The Mogami River, the main river of Yamagata, flows through the same basin. The low ground near it shapes how roads and fields are laid out across the area. Farther out, the land climbs toward forested ranges. On a map those slopes show as open space broken by winding valley roads, which sets off the tight grid of the settlement in the middle.
A Yachi map poster shows a very Japanese kind of place: a rural town where the map never gets truly crowded. Main roads come in from the neighbouring towns and meet in the centre. Past them the lines thin out into field boundaries, so the print is mostly white space held together by a few firm strokes.
The town lies on flat land in the Yamagata basin. The streets can spread evenly, and the farmland around them breaks into long, regular rectangles.
Irrigation channels and farm lanes lay a fine, even lattice over the land around the centre. In monochrome it reads almost like a textile pattern.
Forested ranges close in the basin. On the edges of the map, the dense lines of the valley give way to sparse, curving roads.

Ko e ha Yachi
Yachi is the kind of place people carry with them: a hometown, a family house, or somewhere a year was spent far from the cities. The print gives that a quiet visual form, a small cluster of streets held in a large open landscape.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or the year someone moved away. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, whichever suits the room where it will hang.
