Industrial waterfront
Rectangular reclaimed islands and piers line the bay, forming a hard-edged, highly graphic coastline. It looks especially sharp in the Blueprint and Noir styles.

Yokkaichi lies on the western shore of Ise Bay in northern Mie Prefecture. Its name means 'fourth-day market', after markets once held on days ending in four. The town grew as a post station on the Tōkaidō road between Edo and Kyoto, and today it is best known for its port and its large petrochemical complex.
From above, the coast is the most striking feature. Reclaimed land juts into the bay in rectangular blocks lined with tanks, piers and industrial basins, making an almost diagrammatic pattern on the map. At night the lit-up plants have become a known sight, drawing photographers and evening boat tours.
Inland, the city relaxes into residential streets, rail lines and rivers flowing east from the Suzuka Mountains on the western horizon. A Yokkaichi map poster balances these two faces: the geometric harbour front and the softer, older town behind it.
Rectangular reclaimed islands and piers line the bay, forming a hard-edged, highly graphic coastline. It looks especially sharp in the Blueprint and Noir styles.
The old post-station route passes through the city. It is a reminder of the road that once linked Edo and Kyoto and shaped Yokkaichi's early growth.
Several rivers flow from the western hills to Ise Bay. They draw parallel lines through the city that break the dense street pattern into distinct districts.
