Zandvoort lies on the Dutch coast west of Haarlem, directly on the North Sea. On a map it is a long, narrow town pressed against a straight sandy shoreline, with a beach promenade running along its western edge. Inland, the streets give way to a broad band of dunes, which separate the town from the rest of North Holland and give it an almost island-like feel.
The town is one of the Netherlands' best-known beach resorts and has a direct rail link to Haarlem and Amsterdam, making it a popular day trip. In the dunes north of the centre lies Circuit Zandvoort, a racing track that has hosted the Dutch Grand Prix of Formula 1. Its winding loop is one of the most recognisable shapes on the map.
A Zandvoort map poster brings together three distinct textures: the straight line of the coast, the tight streets of the old village centre, and the irregular dune landscape stretching north and south. Around the edges, protected dune areas remain largely unbuilt, so the town appears as a clearly defined shape between sea and sand, framed by open ground on every side.
The coastline runs almost perfectly straight past the town, drawing a clean boundary on the poster. The beach and promenade follow it, with the streets of the town leaning toward the water.
The racing circuit sits in the dunes just north of the town, its curves and corners forming a distinctive loop that stands apart from the ordinary street pattern around it.
Wide belts of dunes surround Zandvoort, including protected natural areas to the north and south. On the map they appear as open, softly broken ground between the town and Haarlem.
