Valley-shaped centre
The main streets run along the valley floor. The built-up area takes a long, irregular shape set by the surrounding hills rather than by a plan.

Afonso Cláudio Map Poster & Print
Afonso Cláudio lies in the mountainous interior of Espírito Santo, in southeastern Brazil. The terrain here rises and folds constantly, and the town has taken the shape the valley allowed. Streets follow the lower ground, and the built-up area thins quickly as the slopes steepen. From above, the town looks drawn in by the hills rather than laid out on open ground.
This is farming country, and coffee has long been important across the Espírito Santo highlands. Around the town, roads wind along ridges and valley floors to reach smaller rural communities. Within the centre, blocks are small and irregular. They bend with a watercourse and the curves of the terrain rather than following any fixed grid.
An Afonso Cláudio map poster captures a mountain town at a human scale. It shows a narrow valley settlement, a few key roads and the winding lines that tie it to its surroundings. The empty space of the hills frames the streets, and the result feels intimate. That suits a place many residents and former residents simply call home.

Winding approach roads
Roads into town curve along the slopes in long bends, tracing the terrain and connecting scattered rural communities in the highlands.
Hillside edges
Houses climb only a short way up the slopes before the land becomes too steep. This creates soft, uneven edges on the map.
