Ar Riyāḑ Map Poster & Print
Ar Riyāḑ is a town in Kafr el-Sheikh governorate, in the northern part of the Nile Delta, one of the most intensively farmed landscapes in the world. From above, the town appears as a dense cluster of buildings and narrow streets surrounded by an intricate pattern of fields, each parcel bordered by irrigation channels and rural tracks.
Water shapes everything here. Canals and drains carry water from the Nile branches across the flat delta, and roads frequently run alongside them. On a map these straight and gently curving lines of water become the organising structure of the entire landscape, dividing the countryside into long strips and connecting the town to surrounding villages.
An Ar Riyāḑ map poster reflects that delta character: a compact urban core, a network of canals, and farmland stretching to every edge of the frame. It is a modest place on a national scale, but its map has a distinctive texture, the product of centuries of cultivation on some of Egypt's most fertile ground.

Irrigation canals
Canals and drains cross the surrounding land, often lined by roads, creating long lines that divide the countryside and guide the eye across the map.
Delta farmland
Small, tightly packed field parcels surround the town, producing a fine, textile-like pattern that fills the poster around the centre.
