Bhan is a town in Sindh, Pakistan, on the flat alluvial plain west of the Indus. It sits a short distance north of Manchar Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the country. From above, the settlement is a dense knot of lanes surrounded by a wide grid of irrigated fields.
The whole landscape depends on water. Canals and distributaries cut straight lines across the plain, and field boundaries follow them in long rectangles. A Bhan map poster shows how the town sits inside this engineered pattern, with its irregular streets set against the straight lines of the irrigation around it.
Near the lake, the map gets softer. Wetland edges, seasonal channels and low-lying ground change with the water level from year to year. The result is a composition that is both precise and loose: a small urban core with ruled lines on one side and the uneven shoreline of a great lake to the south.
