Chālūs Map Poster
Chālūs lies on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea in Māzandarān Province, northern Iran. From above, it occupies a narrow coastal strip between the shoreline and the steep, wooded Alborz mountains. The Chālūs River flows down from the mountains and through the town to the sea, and the coastal highway runs east to west along the plain.
The town is known across Iran as the northern end of the Chālūs Road, the celebrated mountain route that climbs through river gorges and forest across the Alborz toward Tehran. For many travellers from the capital, the descent toward Chālūs marks their arrival at the Caspian, and the town has long drawn summer visitors.
