Changji Map Poster & Print
Changji lies in northern Xinjiang, directly west of Ürümqi, where the northern slopes of the Tianshan meet the flat land of the Junggar Basin. On the map, the city is a large, regular grid of wide avenues and big blocks. Its layout is typical of cities that grew quickly in western China during recent decades.
The boundary with Ürümqi is barely visible, since the two cities have grown into each other along the main roads running east and west. To the south, the ground rises toward the mountains. To the north, the streets give way to farmland and the plain stretches off toward the desert. Changji is the seat of the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture.
A Changji map poster shows a city defined by order and space. Long straight roads, parks and river channels coming down from the mountains are placed within a grid that looks almost architectural on paper. It offers a very different image from the dense, winding cities many people associate with Asia.

Ürümqi edge
On the eastern side, Changji merges with Ürümqi. The map shows the two cities as one continuous urban area joined along major roads.
Mountain foothills
The land rises south toward the Tianshan range. Channels fed by the mountains run north through the city toward the flat Junggar plain.
