Ch’ench’a sits high in the Gamo highlands of southern Ethiopia, well above the Rift Valley floor and the town of Arba Minch. The road up from the lowlands winds through a long series of bends, and on a map these switchbacks are one of the most striking features. The area is known for the Dorze people, whose villages nearby are famous for tall, beehive-shaped houses made of bamboo and ensete leaves and for fine hand-woven cotton cloth.
