From above, the land is almost perfectly flat, and the city reads as a loose weave of residential blocks, roads and cultivated fields rather than a single dense core. Straight farm roads divide the open ground into long rectangles, and clusters of houses gather along them in a pattern shaped by centuries of rice growing.
