Lake Coari
The lake spreads broadly beside the town, its irregular shoreline and inlets forming a large blank shape that frames the urban grid on one side.

Coari Map Poster & Print
Coari lies on the Solimões, as the Amazon is called above Manaus, at the point where Lake Coari opens into the main river. On a map, water dominates everything: the town occupies a strip of higher ground between two great bodies of water, and its streets form a modest grid that stops abruptly at the shoreline on more than one side.
There is no road link to the rest of Brazil, so the river is the town's highway. Its name is also tied to energy: the Urucu oil and gas province lies in the forest to the southwest, and a gas pipeline runs from the Coari area to Manaus, making this remote municipality unusually significant for the region's economy.
A Coari map poster turns that setting into a striking composition. The small, regular block pattern of the town sits against the vast, empty shapes of lake and river, and the white space speaks of the scale of the Amazon basin as much as the lines do. It is a map as much about water as about streets.

The Solimões
The main channel of the Amazon passes the town in a wide sweep, with sandbanks and river islands shifting the shoreline across the seasons of high and low water.
Riverside grid
Coari's streets form a compact rectilinear pattern that runs up to the waterfront, where boats rather than roads connect the town to Manaus and the rest of the region.
