Dayr Mawās is a town in Minya Governorate in Middle Egypt, set in the narrow green band of the Nile Valley. From above, the map shows a dense cluster of streets and houses surrounded by irrigated fields, with canals and field boundaries tracing fine lines across the farmland. Desert edges lie beyond the cultivated land on both sides of the valley.
The town is associated with the ancient site of Tell el-Amarna, the city built by the pharaoh Akhenaten, which lies across the Nile on the east bank. Visitors to the ruins have long passed through this area on their way to the river crossing. Today Dayr Mawās itself is a working agricultural town, shaped by the rhythm of the valley.
