It sits along National Highway 16, the old Bombay Road, and in recent decades it has grown into a hub for warehouses, trucking and small industry serving the city. Around this commercial strip, much of the area is still a mix of villages, fields and water.
From above, the highway is unmistakable, a broad straight line across the flat Gangetic plain. Large rectangular warehouses and yards line it on both sides, while older villages behind them form tight, irregular clusters.
