Channels and ditches
Straight water channels divide the plain into regular plots. On the poster they create a fine, even mesh that surrounds the town.

De kaart
Duobao Map Poster & Print
Duobao is a town in central Hubei, on the Jianghan Plain, the broad, low-lying farmland formed by the Yangtze and Han rivers. The land is almost perfectly flat. From above, water shapes nearly everything: channels, ditches, fish ponds and embankments divide the countryside into a fine pattern of plots, and the town sits as a compact cluster within it.
The streets of the town are fairly regular, with a main road through the centre and blocks packed on either side. Beyond the edge, the pattern changes to rectangles of fields and ponds, lined with straight drainage channels. Embankments, built to manage the water in this flood-prone plain, draw long firm lines across the landscape.
A Duobao map poster captures the quiet geometry of the Jianghan Plain. Detail comes from water and field boundaries more than from hills or old walls. It is a map for people from the town and nearby villages, and for anyone interested in how flat river plains are organised.

Fish ponds
Rectangular ponds are common in the countryside around town. They appear as small solid blocks that give the landscape a checkerboard feel.
Compact town core
The streets of the town are closely packed around a main road. In the flat, open plain that dense core stands out clearly at the centre of the frame.
