Faial Island Map Poster & Print
Faial is one of the central islands of the Azores, just across a narrow channel from Pico. It is often called the Blue Island, after the hydrangeas that line its roads in summer. On a map the island is a roughly rounded shape with a large volcanic caldera at its centre. Roads radiate outward from the middle and circle the coast.
Horta, the main town, lies on the southeast coast facing Pico. Its marina has long been a stopping point for sailors crossing the Atlantic, and crews traditionally paint their boat names and emblems on the harbour walls. The town’s streets climb gently from the waterfront. They form a small grid of detail on an island otherwise shaped by fields, villages and volcanic slopes.
At the western tip, the Capelinhos eruption of 1957 and 1958 added new land to the island and left a bare headland and a ruined lighthouse. A Faial Island map poster brings these layers together, from the old harbour town to the caldera and the newest coastline. The outline of Pico is often visible across the water.

Horta marina
The harbour on the southeast coast, sheltered by its breakwater, has the island’s densest cluster of streets and is a known landmark for Atlantic sailors.
Capelinhos headland
The eruption of the late 1950s extended the western point. It now ends in a stretch of new land that shows how recently parts of the coastline formed.

Waarom Faial Island
Een kaart met betekenis
Faial has a special place for sailors, whale watchers and anyone who has passed through Horta on an Atlantic crossing. A map of the island is a natural keepsake of that stop, and its round, centred form sits well on a wall.
Add the name of your boat, the year of a crossing or a personal date to the title, subtitle or coordinates line. Choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint has a natural nautical feel.
