Florida Map Poster & Print
Florida is the capital of the department of the same name in south-central Uruguay, about 100 kilometres north of Montevideo. Like many Uruguayan towns, it was laid out on a regular Spanish colonial grid of square blocks, and from above the plan is strikingly orderly: straight streets crossing at right angles, a central plaza, and the rectangular pattern fading gradually into farmland.
The Santa Lucía Chico River runs along the town's edge, and beside it lies the Prado de la Piedra Alta, where Uruguay's declaration of independence was signed in 1825. The site gives Florida a special place in national history. The town is also home to the sanctuary of the Virgin of the Thirty-Three, the patroness of Uruguay, which draws pilgrims each year.
A Florida map poster shows the neat geometry of the grid alongside the curving river and its wooded banks. The contrast is simple but effective: repeated square blocks on one side, a loose, meandering line of water and parkland on the other. Roads and railway lines leave the town toward Montevideo and the interior, framing the composition in black and white.

Piedra Alta park
The riverside park where independence was declared in 1825 forms a green, irregular area beside the water, marking the town's most historic ground.
Santa Lucía Chico
The river bends past the town in wide loops, its tree-lined banks softening the edge of the otherwise strict street grid.

Waarom Florida
Een kaart met betekenis
For Uruguayans, Florida carries the weight of 1825, and for those who grew up here it is also simply home: the plaza, the river on summer afternoons, the walk to school. A map honours both the history and the everyday.
