Valley-floor layout
The town stretches along the lower ground between hills, giving it a long, uneven outline instead of the compact circle of a lowland settlement.

Ganning Map Poster & Print
Ganning lies in the mountainous north-east of Chongqing, a region of steep ridges, narrow valleys and terraced slopes above the Yangtze basin. In country like this, a town cannot spread evenly. Its streets follow the valley floor and wrap around the lower slopes, and the map records that constraint clearly: built areas where the ground allows them, open hillside where it does not.
The result is an irregular, linear shape rather than a compact grid. Main roads bend with the terrain, smaller lanes climb away from them, and the edges of the town dissolve into fields and slopes. Around it, rural roads wind across the hills to scattered villages, drawing loose, looping lines between the ridges.
A Ganning map poster captures a typical Chongqing landscape at small scale: a settlement shaped by topography rather than by planning. Instead of a single strong centre, the print shows a string of streets following the land, with fine, winding roads spreading out into the hills around it.

Contour-following roads
Main roads curve with the terrain rather than running straight, so even the busiest streets on the map have a soft, flowing line.
Rural road network
Beyond the town edge, narrow roads loop across ridges and slopes to nearby villages, filling the margins with fine, meandering detail.

Waarom Ganning
Een kaart met betekenis
For people from Ganning, or with family in the Wanzhou countryside, a map of the town is a personal record of a place that rarely appears in travel books. Its winding lines make a calm, unusual picture.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, in English or with a name that matters to you, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the precise curves of a hillside road network.
