Poyang Lake margins
To the east, the land breaks into lake inlets and wetland. On the print, these large irregular shapes balance the ordered streets of the town.

Gongqingcheng Map Poster & Print
Gongqingcheng lies in northern Jiangxi, in the Jiujiang area, close to the western side of Poyang Lake, China's largest freshwater lake. Its setting is watery and low, with ponds, channels and lake inlets breaking up the land. On the map, the town sits between these water shapes and the higher ground to the west.
The city began in 1955, when a group of young volunteers from Shanghai came to reclaim land here under the Communist Youth League, which gave the place its name. Hu Yaobang, who later led the Communist Party, supported the settlement. He is buried on a hillside in the city.
A Gongqingcheng map poster captures a place that still shows it was planned: wide roads, regular new districts and plenty of room between them, framed by water. It is an unusual subject for a wall print. The story of how it started gives the lines a meaning beyond the street pattern.

Planned road grid
Newer districts follow broad, regular roads laid out with room to grow, a clear sign that Gongqingcheng was designed rather than grew over centuries.
Hillside memorial
Hu Yaobang's burial place sits on higher ground at the city's edge, where contour-like curving paths contrast with the straight lines of the urban area.

Waarom Gongqingcheng
Een kaart met betekenis
The map works for anyone tied to Gongqingcheng: students, families who have lived here for generations, or people interested in China's planned towns. It shows how a settlement created by volunteers found its place between a great lake and the hills.
You can edit the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the city's planned look. Paper gives a softer effect in a living room.
